Mr. John R. West was born in Hampton, VA on June 8, 1941 to the late C.T. West and the late Erna (Peterson) West. Mr. John proudly served in the United States Navy. In 1970 John married Jo, the women he would spend the next 48 years with. They lived in Linthicum, MD where they raised their children. After John retired from the postal service as a mail hauler, John worked part-time for Jewell Electric. John was an active member of the Heritage Community Church. He was head usher and Pastor Bowman's steward. John was an avid bowler. Over the years he was in over 50 bowling league. Mr. West enjoyed taking care of farm animals. He was also a Boy Scout leader and belonged to the Glen Burnie Moose Lodge.
In addition to his parents, Mr. John West was predeceased by his son Jay Gibson, Sr. and brother Tommy West. Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Rev. Jo West, son Joe Gibson, Sr. and his wife Kathy, daughter-in-law Debbie Gibson, son Jimmy West and his wife Shelly, brothers Paul and Roger West, sister Mildred Rogers. John also leaves behind his grandchildren Joey Gibson, Jr., Jay Gibson, Jr., Jeffrey Gibson, Virginia Kendall, Shane Cook, Jessica West, Jamie West, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. John R. West passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Chesapeake, Rebecca Fortney Inpatient Care Center in Pasadena, MD on July 29, 2018. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, American Heart Association or American Legion Post 34 on Belle Grove Rd.
