- Remelda Nielsen Gibson, age 97 was a very devoted mother, loving wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a very talented poet and author who died Tuesday evening, Sep 26, 2000 at 11:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Dorothy and Ted Tuttle, Murray, Utah.
Before moving to Murray five years ago, she was a longtime resident of Tooele moving there in 1929. Remelda was born Feb 2, 1903 in Moroni, Utah to Niels Erastus Nielsen and Annie Elizabeth Christensen Nielsen. She was the third of 11 children. She married Ondus Horace "Jack" Gibson Dec 13, 1922 in Nephi, Utah. They were later sealed to each other for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug 28, 1976. They spent 60 wonderful years together before Jack died on Mar 8, 1983. They enjoyed many happy moments dancing, fishing, camping and visiting with family and friends. Remelda was a very talented poet. She was a past member of the American Amateur Press Association; Midwest Chaparral Poets and American Poetry League. She had won many contests for her poetry. She was instrumental in introducing patterned poems to poets throughout the USA. She has had over 2000 poems published in over 200 newspapers and magazines throughout the United States and Canada. She enjoyed writing about the beauty of nature and it's Spiritual Creation. She was editor of Rhythmic Bard Beats, a poetry column for the Tooele Transcript Bulletin for many years. She has had eight booklets of her poems published: Golden Shell; Utah, The Beautiful; Reflective Garlands; On Wings Of Words; Mother, Poetic Gems For Mother; Down The Children's Trail & Prized Possessions. She always remembered birthdays and special occasions of all her offspring. She knew when they were born and their full names which was not an easy task for her. She had a full calendar to remind her.
Remelda enjoyed creating scrapbooks with her poetry and accompanying pictures. She would donate the scrapbooks to shut-ins, hospitals, rest homes, friends and family for them to enjoy. Some of her
scrapbooks were blue ribbon winners at the Tooele County Fair. Remelda enjoyed dancing until a few months ago at the Tooele Senior Citizens Center.
Jack and Remelda had nine children. Junior Nielsen Gibson and Melvin Clinton Gibson both died as infants.
Survivors are:Jack U. and Arlys Gibson of Big River, CA; Ivis Allsop of Salt Lake City, UT; Dorothy and Edward H. Tuttle of Murray, UT; LaRay and Doris Gibson of West Valley City, UT; Max and Barbara Gibson of Scottsdale, AZ; Jed and Karen Gibson of Provo, UT; Bill and Sharon Gibson of Provo, UT; Brothers and Sisters of Remelda who preceded her in death are: Edith Anna Nielsen Johnston; Helena May Nielsen Stratford; Arthur Erastus Nielsen; Rozina Marie Nielsen Olsen Brewer; Ida Elaine Nielsen Huggins; Morris Jay Nielsen; Flauris Udele Nielsen. She is survived by her sisters Glenda Pearl Nielsen Worthen, Ferron, UT; Verla Nielsen Bolin, Moroni, UT; brother, Clinton Nielsen, Moroni, UT; 34 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Oct 2, 2000 at 1p.m. in the Tooele 5th Ward 196 No. Pinehurst Ave. Friends may call at Tate Mortuary from 11:30a.m. till 12:45p.m. Interment
